How to sell on the Facebook marketplace

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

Side hustles are all the rage and in reality, are a great way to make a little extra cash. One side hustle that I don't read a lot about is selling on the Facebook marketplace.

Selling on the Facebook marketplace can be a really easy gig that nets you over $1,000/month, but you need to find your niche, do some research, and act as a merchandiser to really make good money. Let me tell you more about what I mean.

How to sell on the Facebook marketplace

1. Log into your Facebook account

2. Look for the Marketplace icon - if you can't find it just search the word "marketplace" in the top right search bar

3. Once there, find the "Create New Listing" button, click that and follow the instructions

How to make money selling on the Facebook marketplace

Think like a merchandiser

What does that mean? According to careerexplorer.com a merchandiser is someone responsible for product appearance and supply. How does this apply to FB? Well, you need to make sure that you have or take good pictures of any product you are going to sell.

In addition, you need to figure out what people want and list the right products. That is where product research comes into play.

Do your research

Take some time to see what items are popular and what they are selling at. I suggest, if you really want to turn this into a side hustle, or $1,000/month side gig, then you will need to collect some data and conduct a bit of research.

After you figure out what items are popular track what they are selling for. Track the features that most items have. Track anything and everything that you think would be important to the buying decision someone would make when looking for an item similar to an item you want to sell.

Find your niche

Finding your niche might not come easy. It may take a while for you to find the types of products you want to buy and sell.

If you only want to sell stuff you have around your house, then you really don't need to find a niche, you just need to take a few great pictures and list your item at the proper price.

If you are looking to make this a substantial money-making venture then you will need to be an expert in something. That way you can find that item online or at a local store, below the cost you know it can be sold on Facebook for, and then buy the item to later list on Facebook. Does that make sense? Buy low and sell higher is the basic philosophy, but you can't do that without knowing what high and low are for the items you want to sell.

Have extra cash and use it wisely

At first, this may be hard to come by. At first, you may need to sell things around your house, but over time, if you reinvest the money you make to buy more stuff to sell on the Facebook marketplace then you will be better off and will have better items to sell.

Summary

I'd love to hear what niche you find yourself selling it and/or the success you have selling on the Facebook marketplace. There are a ton of ways to make thousands of dollars per month if you just focus your time and attention to the effort.
