For many of us we Google how to make extra money, read a blog post or ten, and get discouraged because the suggestions are things we simply don’t have the skills to do. You begin saying things like: I don’t have a computer so how can I be a copywriter or a writer at all? I don’t have the skills to edit writings. I do t have the skills to be a graphic designer, or website designer, or digital ad creator, or or or and on and on. There are a ton of ways to make money but the main challenge is matching the skills you have with the right way to make extra money. That is where The Saving Dude and this community come in to play.

Now on to ways to make extra money.

Sell your stuff and buy cheaper stuff

One common things my wife and I did early in our relationship was sell furniture we had for a while, buy used/junky furniture and fix it up. We did this with our dining room set and made $200! We sold our old set for $300, bought a used broken down table and chairs for $40, then spent about $60 on supplies to fix it up. It has been a great dining set for us and we have had it over 5 years now with no plans to change it out. We are actively in the process of refinishing an old cedar chest to serve as a bench in our master closet. This isn’t a way we are making money, but a similar process that is going to save us from having a custom bench built or buying expensive furniture for the space.

Finally!

Flip your house

We also flipped our first house. While it took us about 2.5 years we also got married in that house so that took up most of our attention for over 10 months. That flip made us over $50,000 on the sale of the house.

Sell old stuff

We have sold old clothes and shoes to consignment shops. Posted plants, old computer bags, you name it on Craigslist and the Facebook marketplace. If you have something sitting around in a closet that you don't use any more and you think you can get $5 for it, heck even $1 get it listed and get it out. Every $1 counts when you are talking about adding to your net worth

Get an odd/extra job

I've considered working at a local hardware store like I did in high school. For a while, early in my career I worked evenings and weekends as a bartender. There are a whole slew of jobs you can do from a computer at home. All can bring in varying amounts of money.

So now it’s your turn! What ways have you made extra money? Share with the community in all the ways I’ve outlined above. Who knows maybe your topic will become a full fledged blog post here at The Saving Dude!
